armchair taxonomy

A new phrase I learn for the day--- "armchair taxonomy"-- I guess this is what I do... I sit on the chair doing nothing good and come up with semi-logical kinda things...

The context within which this phrase surface--

1. The idea that pains as multiple-dimensional phenomena and the compositions of the yet to be specified dimensions.
2. The subjectiveness self-report by the patients

"Armchair taxonomy" cannot decide the number and nature of pain dimensions-- it sounds like armchair taxonomy is a taxonomy you cook up while rocking around on that armchair and the way it is used makes it sound sort of negative...
